Presented by Capital One At VB Transform 2026, Kel Vanee, MVP of machine learning engineering at Capital One, spoke with Sam Witteveen, Senior Technology Contributor at VentureBeat, about how the bank built a scalable multi-agent AI architecture around deeply customized open-weight models rather than relying on an off-the-shelf foundation model. At Capital One, we re not just using AI, we re building AI, Vanee said. The groundwork was laid years ago with Capital One s early investments in data transformation and cloud adoption, which Vanee said were foundational to moving quickly when the current wave of AI arrived. That technical foundation enabled the company to make several deliberate architectural decisions, including building a centralized, enterprise-wide AI platform with built-in governance, deeply customizing open models with proprietary data, and constructing its own multi-agent orchestration harness.Customizing open-weight models with proprietary data Rather than relying solel
Rivian R1S owners, rejoice. Rivian has heard your pleas for second-row captain's chairs. For years, Rivian owners have lamented the absence of captain's chairs in the R1S, noting that the three-row SUV would be much improved with standalone seats instead of a bench in the second row. Parents groused that loading and unloading kids in the R1S could be a headache, especially with a child's seat in the second row. And some owners have even contemplated going so far as to rip out the second-row bench seat and replace it with aftermarket chairs - so desperate were they for an accessible path to the third row. Fortunately for them, Rivian annou … Read the full story at The Verge.
iFixit has provisionally given Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 a repairability score of 4 out of 10, which largely hinged on… well, the hinge. In its teardown of the device, iFixit found that because it carries an IP48 ingress rating - meaning it isn't protected against particles under 1 millimeter - dust and sand could make its way into the hinge mechanism, a component that's difficult to repair or replace. "After working the Fold 8 open and closed, the hinge started making truly awful crunching and grinding noises, and the phone stopped opening normally," iFixit said. "Samsung has previously treated the hinge and inner display as one replacemen … Read the full story at The Verge.

Writer, the enterprise AI agent platform used by Fortune 500 companies including Accenture, Uber, and Vanguard, released its new flagship model Palmyra X6 today, alongside a rebuilt agent orchestration harness and new governance tools designed to give IT leaders control over runaway token spending. The headline numbers are striking: Writer says its agent product now operates at an average 52% lower cost, with a 48% improvement in speed and a 10% improvement in quality when paired with Palmyra X6. But the more consequential story may be how the company got there — and what its choices reveal about where the enterprise AI market is heading.Palmyra X6 is not trained from scratch. It is a post-trained version of GLM-5.2, the open-weight mixture-of-experts model from Beijing-based Z.ai, formerly Zhipu AI — a fact Writer discloses openly in its technical report, and one that places the San Francisco company at the center of one of the industry s most charged debates: whether American enterpri
