Model routing can finally be a design choice rather than a system enhancement The post How to Build a Cheap, Yet Reliable Model Router With Jev appeared first on Towards Data Science.
This Asus Googlebook is one of the Intel models that may have issues. | Photo: Antonio G. Di Benedetto / The Verge Google has waited until the day its new Googlebook laptops hit the market to admit that Intel-based models may have issues running some Android apps. Before now, Google has emphasized that the Android-based Googlebooks give owners access to the "entire Play Store library" of apps, along with some clever interactions with Android phones and tablets. Today, in a statement to Android Authority, it admitted that while every app is available, some may not offer smooth performance on every Googlebook. The vast majority of Android apps run smoothly across both Intel and Qualcomm Googlebooks right out of the box. Because many Android apps were o … Read the full story at The Verge.
By the University of Glasgow Giving robot companions animal-like or anime-style faces and voices could maximise their emotional appeal to users, according to new research which could help guide the growing field of social robotics. Social robots can provide companionship and comfort to their owners by mimicking human or petlike behaviours. Although the robots are [ ]
Norbert Wiener, godfather of cybernetics, once said, "The thought of every age is reflected in its technique." For the past century, our thought has been reflected in our computers, including by those in the AI industry. Google's Demis Hassabis calls the brain "a biological approximation to a Turing machine." Elon Musk puts it more bluntly, declaring that "people should just think of the brain as a biological computer." (Musk's brain often worries me.) But humans are more complex than a straightforward comparison to computers gives us credit for - and far more than most of the AI industry seems to appreciate. And as their products push e … Read the full story at The Verge.

arXiv:2610.02267v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Agent harnesses make many small, typed decisions per task: which model to call, which tool to use, whether retrieved text is relevant, whether an input carries an injection. System-1 decision models answer such questions in a single forward pass with class probabilities, promising large cost and latency savings over LLM calls. We present a paired evaluation of an open-weight (Laya) and a hosted (Jev) System-1 model on 11 agent decision points built from 18 public sources: 7,283 base cases plus 6,640 robustness variants, with byte-identical inputs, paired tests, and cross-hardware and cross-day reproducibility checks. Jev is significantly more accurate on 9 of 11 decision points (+10.8 to +46.0 pp). Neither model beats chance on zero-shot model routing, and they tie on RAG relevance gating. Laya changes 30% of its answers when the option order is reversed and degrades sharply with many or similar candidates (31% at 50 nearest-neighbour too
