Enterprise teams running AI agents at scale are finding that a single model handles every task poorly — either the model is too expensive for simple questions or not capable enough for hard ones. Model routing, which picks the right model for each task automatically, is becoming the fix.Snowflake’s Cortex AI Gateway now offers dynamic model routing to address that: enterprises can select “auto” instead of a fixed model, and the system routes each task to whichever model offers the best combination of quality and cost. Snowflake said the capability can cut token costs by as much as 3x on some workloads — a figure from the company’s own internal testing — after finding that simple questions were often handled by its most capable model, making responses more expensive and slower than necessary. The move lands amid a broader industry shift toward automated model routing. Databricks, AWS, Google Cloud and Nvidia have all announced some form of model routing technology. Snowflake argues that

The Fairphone 6 Plus is the first Fairphone to officially launch in the US. | Photo: Dominic Preston / The Verge The Fairphone 6 Plus is a minor hardware refresh, but a major launch for the company: It's the first phone that Fairphone is selling directly in the US. It's on sale now for $649.99, available through Fairphone's website and Amazon, and is sold unlocked with support for both T-Mobile and AT T. In Europe it costs 649, a 50 increase on last year's phone. Fairphones from the 4 onwards have been available to buy in the US, but never from Fairphone itself. They were exclusively sold through a partnership with Murena, the developer of /e/OS, a "de-Googled" version of Android. That meant buyers were forced to use Murena's software - which is ca … Read the full story at The Verge.
On August 6th, the Minneapolis Air Route Traffic Control Center lost radar and communications for around two hours. The outage disrupted more than 1,100 flights across the center's 330,000 square mile, nine-state airspace sector. Two days earlier, on August 4th, President Donald Trump departed the White House inside his Marine One military helicopter. As Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) protocol requires, the pilots tried to contact Reagan National Airport to tell them to halt commercial traffic during the flight. But the air traffic controllers never heard the transmission and cleared a different airplane for takeoff - which came clo … Read the full story at The Verge.

The AirPods in the video look like a chunkier version of Apple’s AirPods Pro 3. | Image: Apple / MacRumors We may have our first glimpse of Apple's rumored camera-equipped AirPods, thanks to a video that MacRumors found in the macOS Tahoe 26.7 Release Candidate. The short video clip features a man - who is wearing the new AirPods - holding up a book with the cover displayed, so that Visual Intelligence can see the book title. A Siri voice-over plays over the clip, saying "with Visual Intelligence, your world becomes savable. See something you like? Just ask me to save it for later." Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has previously reported that the rumored AirPods with cameras are designed to take in "visual information in low resolution" and act as eyes … Read the full story at The Verge.
The biggest AI model release of the past few days, at least among the developers and AI power users on social media, wasn t a frontier cloud model from OpenAI, Anthropic or Google. It was a 27-billion-parameter model from Alibaba: Qwen3.8-27B landed on Hugging Face on Friday under an enterprise-friendly, open source Apache 2.0 license, giving developers downloadable weights for a dense multimodal model. But Qwen3.8-27B isn t a garden variety small local model: it includes native image and video understanding, a 262,144-token context window, configurable reasoning and support for coding and agentic workflows — a “compact, deployment-friendly” version of the capabilities developed for its Qwen3.8 generation. That unusually small hardware footprint is a major part of Qwen3.8-27B’s appeal. Running the model at full 16-bit precision requires roughly 56GB of GPU memory, while an FP8 version needs about 28GB. But 4-bit quantization cuts the model itself to roughly 17GB, putting it within reach o
